NEWS > UNESCO, Signed the Memorandum of Understanding between Italy, Croatia and Montenegro about the management of the Venetian Works of Defence

The 14th November 2017, four months after the inscription on UNESCO's World Heritage list of "The Venetian Works of Defence between the 16th and 17th centuries: Stato da Terra - Western Stato da Mar", the Italian, Croatian and Montenegrin Ministry of Culture and the Mayors of the six cities involved, signed in Bergamo a Memorandum of Understanding. The formal act launched the project's joint cross-border management, the establishment of a permanent Secretariat and the inscription of the Venetian Walls in World Heritage Sites. It consists of six components of defence oddslot works that are located in the cities of Bergamo, Peschiera del Garda and Palmanova in Italy, Sebenik and Zadar in Croatia, Kotor in Montenegro: a territory spanning more than 1000 km, once again proof of an outstanding transnational cultural heritage in the Adriatic and Ionian Region.
