From 2 to 5 March 2026, the city of Paphos hosted the fifth transnational meeting of the GreenMove project, with the active participation of the Municipality of Fano partner in the initiative.
Despite significant disruptions in international transport and adverse weather conditions, which prevented several delegations from travelling to Cyprus, the meeting was successfully held thanks to a hybrid format that ensured full participation from all partners.

Cooperation beyond obstacles
Travel disruptions affecting nine partner countries posed a major challenge. Nevertheless, the consortium chose not to postpone the meeting, turning constraints into an opportunity to adopt more flexible and inclusive working methods.
Through digital platforms and hybrid sessions, all partners actively contributed to presentations, workshops, and roundtable discussions, ensuring a dynamic and continuous exchange of knowledge and perspectives.
Key outcomes of the meeting
Over the three days, the meeting delivered important results for the project’s advancement:
-
national presentations from all partner countries, offering a comparative overview of mobility systems and local policies across Europe;
-
thematic workshops on civic engagement, participatory planning, and sustainable urban mobility;
-
roundtable discussions involving local authorities, transport providers, and community stakeholders;
-
a local study visit in Paphos, European Capital of Smart Tourism 2023;
-
progress on the fifth chapter of the Interactive Guide for a Sustainable Living (GISLG), focusing on transport infrastructure and social progress.
The strength of the GreenMove network
The Paphos meeting once again highlighted the strength of the GreenMove network, grounded in the “Demos-Kratos” philosophy—the belief that sustainable change is driven by empowered local authorities and actively engaged citizens.
Within this framework, sustainable mobility is understood not merely as an infrastructural issue, but as a key driver of social cohesion, territorial inclusion, and balanced development across European communities.
Looking ahead: Valongo
The project will conclude with its sixth and final transnational meeting, scheduled for late 2026 in Valongo. The final event will focus on social inclusion and gender equality, with particular attention to women’s empowerment in mountainous regions through mobility.
About the project
Funded by the European Commission under the CERV – Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values Programme (Network of Towns), GreenMove brings together 17 partner organisations from 16 European countries. The project aims to promote sustainable mobility models in rural and island areas while strengthening civic participation and cooperation among local communities.
