AI-NURECC EUSAIR Youth Games events in Ancona (IT)

Great success for the AI-NURECC events organised by the Forum of the Adriatic and Ionian Cities in the framework of the EUSAIR Youth Games and held in Ancona (Italy) as part of the Youth Action of the AI-NURECC Initiative, a project co-financed by the European Union.

From 27 to 29 September the FAIC organised the 4th AI-NURECC Info-Kiosk located in Piazza Cavour, in the heart of the Youth Games Village, and aimed to inform and raise-awareness on European policies and strategies in the field of sport and youth.

At least 550 citizens, young athletes, cities representatives coming from 8 countries of the Adriatic-Ionian area (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Greece, Italy, Montenegro, Serbia, Slovenia) visited the AI-NURECC booth, as testified by the lists of participants, and were informed about the AI-NURECC Initiative co-funded by the European Union, the European Strategy for the Adriatic and Ionian Region and the EU opportunities supporting cultural exchanges for young people. 1000 materials/brochures (about EUSAIR, the AI-NURECC partners, the EU policies for Youth and Sport) were distributed; 1300 ecological metal AI-NURECC/EUSAIR flasks were distributed to young athletes and citizens.

During the three days a survey on EUSAIR promoted and conceived by FAIC was also filled by 100 people (see questionari AI-NURECC). The results show, for instance, that 56% of them don’t know what EUSAIR is, but 68% consider the existence of a common strategy quite or very important for the area. More details on the results can be requested at faic@comune.ancona.it.

Moreover all the international associations involved (FAIC, UNIADRION, ForumAIC and AII) guaranteed specific time slots for answering people’s questions within the AI-NURECC Info-Kiosk centered three days collateral event “Discover the Associations”.

On Sunday 29th September 2019 the FAIC organized the Info Day on “Youth and Sport for All in the Adriatic and Ionian Region – Let’s Play Together!” hosting interventions by the Mayor of the City of Ancona (FAIC founder and member) Valeria Mancinelli, who provided her institutional opening speech, and the MEP Simona Bonafè, who explained the EU priorities and strategies in the field of youth and sport.

The AI-NURECC Initiative was introduced by the CPRM representantive and AI-NURECC Coordinator Mr. Stavros Kalognomos (speech video available on request at faic@comune.ancona.it). The open air conference was attended by over 130 participants who signed the lists (while another 200 were listening standing on the Cavour square), many of them key European and A-I stakeholders such as representatives of universities, schools, cities, sport organisations, students and young athletes, and they were introduced with the challenges facing young people and the wide range of opportunities (mobility, cultural exchange, grants etc.) provided by the EU to youth, also through sport as a tool for integration and social inclusion with a focus on the youth cooperation at transnational level. These are the key issues discussed by the FAIC Secretary General Ms. Ida Simonella, the UniAdrion Secretary General Mr. Donato Iacobucci, the Forum AIC Secretary General Mr. Michele De Vita, the Vice-Chair of Entrepreneurship & SME Committee of Businees Europe Mr. Diego Mingarelli and the former Yugoslav volleyball national team player Ms. Mirjana Jelovcic. During the three days event and thanks to the AI-NURECC EUSAIR Infoday newspapers ads and articles, social networks, websites, the city posters, etc., news on AI-NURECC reached more then 300.000 people (e.g. ads were published, on 3 different days, on regional newspapers having an average number of readers of 300.000 units both per day – Audipress data 2019).

The AI-NURECC Youth Games event was the project’s largest in terms of participation and significantly involving every single EUSAIR Country. FAIC will keep on promoting the AI-NURECC Youth Games related achievements on every possible next Adriatic Ionian Sport event; it will keep on promoting the added value of AI Cooperation; it will push the mainstreaming of AI cooperation in the field of Youth and Sport within the urban and regional policies of its members (e.g. during the three days event the Cities of Ancona (Italy) and Sabac (Serbia) signed an adriatic-ionian friendship oath (available on request at faic@comune.ancona.it) based on cooperation on youth and sport); it will keep on making more visible and solid the results coming from urban cooperation in the EUSAIR area; it will support the cooperation among international associations working within the AI area.
